No, Blio does not use Adobe DRM. We use our own unique DRM solution. Content purchased/loaned in Blio will automatically associate with the Blio username and password. This means downloads and licensing (which is what DRM handles) are self contained in the app.

I have been discussing potentially adding in a handler to accommodate Adobe DRM files as well, but there is not an overwhelming demand for it, so it likely will not ever make it into the production product.

(Anyone who is interested in this feature, please comment here so I can provide feedback for management)

Hi Alex,

I work for a public library that loans Blio and ePub format ebooks to our patrons using the Axis360 platform.

We would be very interested in Blio being able to handle Adobe DRM files because patrons could then read their ePub format ebooks in just one Blio app instead of having to download/setup/login into two separate apps. I wonder, however, how the login process would work because usually ePub files require an Adobe login to authenticate?

The thing that I have been thinking about is to allow users to log in to their Blio account and add their Adobe ID in. Once authenticated with adobe, log the token (provided by adobe for licensing) and associate it with a Blio log in. Once an book with Adobe was loaded with Blio, the app would see the DRM and look up the auth token for the book using the stored information from Adobe. This would allow users to also get their Kobo content (as well as any other sites using an Adobe DRM system) to work with Blio.

The major hold up on this is that Adobe would charge steep licensing fees and we would be required to adapt their DRM solution across the board (I found this out after some digging and speaking at length with management). It is a feature we would like to add, but without a major push from customers (requesting the feature), it will likely keep getting pushed down on the development list.

Hi Leonora:
We are currently in the process of implementing VoiceOver accessibility fixes to the Axis 360 app available at:
Axis 360 will allow you to check out both eBooks and audio books from your public library. While it is possible to perform a number of tasks with the app right now, there are a number of accessibility challenges that need to be resolved to create a better user experience. My hope is that these issues will be resolved in the next few months. In the meantime, if you have specific questions regarding access to library content, please feel free to give me a call at: 209-720-2280, option 4.
